    ElectaFile® is a non-partisan, web-based software that allows you to click to file your campaign finance reports with the North Carolina State Board of Elections or your county board of elections.

  • Why Should I Use ElectaFile®?

    You should use ElectaFile® because it is an easy, safe, and affordable way to fulfill your legally-required campaign finance reporting obligations in North Carolina. ElectaFile® is secure, web-based and accessible from any PC or Mac with an internet connection.

  • Is ElectaFile® Compatible with the State Board and County Boards?

    Yes! ElectaFile® is a private, compatible third party software that you use to file directly with the State Board and County Boards of Elections. When you do file, ElectaFile® streamlines the filing by sending the email with the .cfd attachment to the board of elections with a copy to you!

  • Will ElectaFile® Allow You to File Reports with the Boards of Elections with One Click?

    Yes! ElectaFile® does what the State .cfd software does only better. ElectaFile® allows users to point and click to file their campaign finance reports with the State Board or the county board from your own secure dashboard.

  • What About County Boards of Elections?

    ElectaFile® e-files with county boards of election, too. All county boards in North Carolina use the State .cfd software meaning those filers can email .cfd files to the State Board which in turn gets reported to the county board. ElectaFile® does the same thing only better.

  • If I Use ElectaFile®, Will I Still Need to Use the State Software?

    No. ElectaFile® replaces the State .cfd software and national fundraising software that is priced too high for many committees.

  • Will I Still Need to Send in Wet Ink Signatures on My Campaign Finance Reports?

    Yes. Every filer in North Carolina must send in a timely, wet-ink signature on each of his or her disclosure reports. This is the law of North Carolina and no software can help you avoid that obligation. The same is true for the State .cfd software, too.

    That’s OK, too. ElectaFile® seamlessly allows users to rapidly enter data on transactions, save their work, and come back anytime!

  • Which Political Committees Can Use ElectaFile®?

    ElectaFile® supports all of 1) party committees; 2) subordinate committees (e.g., Democratic Men of Wilson County); 3) building fund committees; 4) candidate committees for everything but municipal races that are on a different calendar; 5) political action committees; and 6) independent expenditure committees.

  • If I Enter Information into ElectaFile®, Can I Retrieve the Data Later?

    Yes. ElectaFile® has a CSV file download feature that allows users to download entered data into convenient CSV files at any time. Users can store that data on their hard drive if they choose for backup as long as they like. Same downloadable option for filed reports.

  • Who Has Access to My Committee Dashboard?

    Great question! You do and anyone to whom you share your credentials. ElectaFile® is designed such that only the user can access a committee’s data unless that user grants permission to another. ElectaFile® prides itself on being non-partisan and interested only in easy and affordable campaign finance reporting.

  • What Does ElectaFile® Cost?

    ElectaFile’s® filing fees are listed here. ElectaFile® provides most of its services as a courtesy to North Carolinians–any committee in the State can enter and track data on ElectaFile® (even if the committee ultimately files using paperwork or using another e-filing platform).

  • How Does ElectaFile® Provide These Services at Such a Low Cost?

    ElectaFile® is transactionally priced so committee treasurers know how much and when they’ll need to pay a small fee per filing. If you don’t file with ElectaFile®, you don’t pay anything at all.

  • Who Built ElectaFile®?

    Andrew Tripp, a lawyer and former Chief of Staff and General Counsel at the North Carolina Senate, imagined ElectaFile® as a simple tool to make it easier for all North Carolinians to participate in politics. In a world where software allows you to buy groceries and have them delivered to your house within an hour from your smartphone, Andrew believed there had to be a better way for campaign finance reporting. He and his family teamed with a group of world class software developers to build and operate ElectaFile®.
